For the next ten months, we will be studying the inner and exterior parts of the Human body.  We will have several project- based assignments with the exception of exams.  Exams will follow each Unit and will be worth 50% of the student’s grade.  Projects are worth 50% of the student’s grade.  This class requires extensive group work and each student will be graded on their individual contribution to the group.  If a group member is not doing the work, they will receive the grade they deserve, apart from the group grade.  Please do not disrespect your fellow colleagues by not contributing to the assignments.

Here is a list of Units we will be studying. Each Unit varies in length, but will last approximately one month.
Text Box: Unit 5: The Integumentary System
Unit 6: The Skeletal System Part 1-Structure
Unit 7: Skeletal System Part II-Joints
Unit 8: Muscular System
Unit 9: Handmade Human Body
Unit 1: Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology
Unit 2: Body Chemistry-Energy/Acids/Water

Research Papers:
There are 4 research papers, 1 per Quarter.  Further instructions to come, regarding the required format & subject matter.
Late Work Policy:
Students are able to make up assignments but must also complete a 5-paragraphed essay on a teacher assigned topic.  The essay must be written with appropriate grammar and must convey the student’s opinions and thoughts in an intelligent manner and will include a works cited page.  Plagiarism will NOT be tolerated!  To receive any credit, both the original assignment and essay must be turn in, simultaneously, with the maximum credit of 70% possible.  The student must turn in both the assignment and essay on the third day from the date the assignment was due to receive any credit.  Ten points per day are deducted from the 3-day make up work period. For example: If the original assignment is due on Monday and the student fails to complete it, the last day to turn in both assignments is Thursday.  If the student turns in the make up work on Tuesday, they can receive a maximum of 70%.  If the student turns the work in on Wednesday, then the maximum points to be earned decrease to 60%.  If the work is turned in on Thursday, the maximum grade to be earned is50%.
Field Trips :
We will tentatively be visiting the Lego Store, NASA-Houston, the Toyota Center, and a Robotics Lab, along with other trips. Permission slips and phone calls will accompany each trip. Parents will be given advanced notice of pricing information and dates of Field Trips.
